I, Dr. Sherryl Devine, have been a professional counselor and educator for the past 30 years. As a counselor I have worked in academia providing personal and academic counseling services to students, faculty and staff as well as maintaining a private practice in East Alton, Illinois. As an educator I have spent the majority of my time in higher education teaching undergraduate Psychology courses and graduate courses in Counseling. I have also had the opportunity to be employed with Access Services for several years working with college students with disabilities.
With over 25 years of experience working with individuals in both private practice and in counseling positions in higher education I have extensive knowledge and work experience working with a broad spectrum of clients and issues including career and employment issues, stress management and anxiety issues, weight control and wellness issues, psychiatric disorders, aging issues, disability issues, etc.
In addition to being an effective counselor, I have presented at conferences, workshops, and to general audiences speaking on various topics. Prior to the years in academia and private practice I worked as a Recreation Therapist working in settings such as psychiatric hospitals, nursing homes and facilities for developmentally disabled and intellectually challenged individuals. I have the understanding, knowledge, and experience to deal with all types of problems and issues that everyday people encounter as well as people who have special needs.
As an interactive, solution-focused therapist, my approach is to provide support and practical feedback to help clients effectively address personal life challenges. With compassion and understanding, I work with each individual to help them build on their strengths and achieve the resolutions they are looking for.
What I really want you to know about me is that I can be the person you come to for just "an objective opinion or observation", or, I can be that person you come to that will assist you in resolving your problems. Solution-focused means helping you to resolve your problems as quickly, efficiently, and successfully as possible.
